Whether students are producing magazines, newspapers, radio and TV programmes or websites as part of their formal university studies, or independently to ‘showcase’ to prospective employers, the Data Protection Act places obligations on tutors, students, examiners and colleges. This workshop, with Richard Orange, provides an easy-to-follow overview data protection legislation, an understanding of the obligations facing ‘data controllers’, and examines some of the ‘grey areas’ affecting undergraduates and postgraduates on media and journalism courses.
